England vs Brazil in Doha, anyone?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Dear All

England v Brazil Sat Nov 14th in Doha.

At the moment am costing a chartered aircraft plus Tickets plus ground transport for the match.

Approx flight times would be 15:00 and back in AUH around 12: 30

At the moment to fly it involves an overnight stay wth ticket prices
around Dhs 1,100 return plus accomodation and tickets.

The cost for our trip will be between Dhs 1500 – Dhs 2000 (Price for Match tickets in Doha are not available yet)

We need min 100 pax to make this work.

If you are DEFINITELY interested please email englandvbrazil@gmail.com with your contact details and any questions.

If and when we get the numbers (First come first served) confirmed times and payment details will be forthcoming.

Could be a jolly of classic proportions. And please pass this on to as many lads (Or lasses) as possible.

If we haven’t got enough people by Nov 3rd I’ll knock it on the head.

cheers

Mike Greaves

Membership reminder – don’t lose out on first preference places!

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Just a reminder that membership is due on or before October 15th (TONIGHT). The cost of membership for Na Fianna this year is AED 300.

If membership is not paid by tonight it can still be paid after the due date. What this means, however, is that those who have paid up on time would get preference for, say example, tickets for events, etc. if there was a limit on places for a certain event.

Movember madness – yes, you read it right!

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009
The Abu Dhabi Falcons are partaking in the Movember Charity Fundraiser, and we look to the support of our irish bretheren for a good cause.
For too long men’s health is put on the charity backburner, with the women clearly leading in this regard.  Hence, Movember was born…..with a chance for men to show their skill (or lack of) of growing the manliest of manliest mo’s. Think Burt Reynolds, Magnum P.I, and other manly examples and there is one common denominator…..the Mo.  For those who aren’t familiar Movember is a thing that’s been going for a few years now, and started in the antipodean world, but has no extended to Ireland, UK, Canada and Northern America.  The aim is to raise money for men’s prostate cancer, a deadly killer!
At the start of the month, every entrant is to be clean shaven at a kick-off event, and then over the month of November they can groom their ‘tache in whatever shape or form you feel is necessary and appropriate.
At the end of the month we are hoping to hold a gala event (dependent on numbers) and award the winners of numerous categories…including the Best Mo Award and the Best attempt Award (for those who are mo challenged). It is good fun and raises money for charity.
For the ladies fear not! You can enter too as a Mo Sista, supporting the Mo Bro’s (unless you want to enter as a mo bro yourself).
We will be registering today under the name The Dish ’Taches (catchy) however if I could get an idea on who would actually partake so we can consider gala options.
I’ve done this back home in Oz and it’s great fun.
Be part of an international brotherhood and become a Mo’ Bro or Mo’ Sista

Golf Groupings, Al Ain, Friday 16th Oct

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Golf PairingsHere are the groupings for Friday’s golf outing in Al Ain. Just a few points:

  • For those of you who said you’d be taking the bus we will be leaving at 10:30 am Friday morning from outside Choueifat School (2nd Street and 15th Street).
  • The cost of the round will be AED 330 which includes green fees, buggy and range balls.
  • Golf clubs can be hired on the day but try to borrow a set if you can to save on expense.
  • We will be playing a Scramble format – everybody tees off, choose the best drive, everybody plays from that spot and so on so forth. This process is repeated for every shot until the hole is completed.
  • Every player must contribute 2 drives to their team (excluding par 3’s).
  • There will be a “Nearest the Pin” and “Longest Drive” competition.
  • Please make sure you have a collared t-shirt and, if not golf shoes, runners with a flat sole.
  • We will stay on after for a few hours for presentation of prizes, etc.
  • The bus should be back in Abu Dhabi around 10:30/11 o’clock Friday night.

Guys there’s no pulling out at this stage. If you can’t make it you will need to find someone to fill your spot otherwise you will still have to pay the AED 330.

My apologies but Al Ain are expecting 24 players and as such we have to pay for 24 people.  See you all on Friday!

Liquor Licences

Monday, October 12th, 2009

It is very important to go by the book at least to have peace of mind regarding obtaining drink from Off Licenses.

Liquor LicenseLiquor License Application

Please find attached a soft copy of the liquor license application together with a map to show where Spinney shops are.

This is the checklist of the documents required for the application:

Ø  Two recent passport sized photos in colour.
Ø  Completed liquor license application form. Spinneys can do the translation into Arabic for you.
Ø  Letter of no objection from company/sponsor or contract of employment (Must show salary information)
Ø  Copy of passport showing resident visa page.
Ø  Payment (This will be 20% of your monthly permit spend). CID are now saying that everyone must take the full allowance which may be 2,000 making your license cost 400 AED.

Take all of these documents to one of Spinney’s stores and present it to the manager. The best manager is Robinson who is at the Najda Street store (see attachment)

Also, hard copies of the pack can be obtained from any Spinney Branch here in the city.

Bahrain Championship

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

BahrainOne of the big GAA sporting events of the year, The Bahrain Championship, is quickly approaching on the horizon. This is one of the great weekends away for the club in the calendar year and is a must go to event!

This year we travel with much optimism as, from what I’ve seen at training so far, both the women’s and men’s team have a very realistic chance of adding more silverware to the club coffers come the end of the games.

The games themselves are scheduled to take place on Friday, November 20th. Built in around the games is an Irish Festival that runs from November 19th – 21st – so both on and off field antics are expected aplenty!!!

This year our current plan is to fly to Bahrain on the night of the 19th and return to Abu Dhabi on the evening of the 21st. On all 3 nights of the event there will be entertainment organized in Bahrain for all travelling clubs.

At the moment I haven’t got an exact fix on the cost but, going on figures from last year and the year before, it should cost you in or around AED 1000. This price is inclusive of Club subsidizing and includes the following: -

  • Flights.
  • Accomodation in Bahrain.
  • Gear bag for all players travelling.

Starting tonight at training I will be taking the names of those who plan to travel to Bahrain in November.  Alternatively, you can e-mail me at declan.madden@hct.ac.ae with your name if you are interested in travelling. Not to put pressure on anyone, but we do need to know numbers within the next 2 weeks as flights and accommodation have to be booked and finalized.

If you have any further questions or queries just drop me an e-mail or just find me at training and ask away.

See you all tonight.
Regards,
Declan.
